I went on a very chilly morning walk today. The first thing that caught my attention was the ground beneath my feet. It was crunchy and slippery! As you can see in the photo, the ground was swelling up – you can really notice this around the rocks. See the gaps?! If I was with a group of students, this would be a great opportunity to do a notice and wonder discussion. Further down the trail, we spotted a few fallen trees, or snags. Out of the cracked branches were some beautiful icicles! Again, this would be a good time to ask about temperature and the effects it can have on water. It’s amazing to see the shape that the water takes as it’s being “squeezed” out of the branch!
